I wanted a simple domain name that would be easy to remember and short enough to type into mobile web browser without being a huge pain. Things like "cortesicreativeconconctions.com" are clever but annoying to type.
These are a collection of recipes that the Cortesi family has been accumulating for 20something years (and many go much further back than that). In 2008, Becky created a soft cover printed book with many of the recipes on this site. In 2009 Tim put together a website to act both as a web based archive as well as a collaborative area where recipes could be added, updated, and shared with others.
I dunno.. ask Becky
Bummer. Probably you should not make that one again.
This site is powered by MediaWiki (the same software behind wikipedia). In an effort to make it feel more like a recipe website and less like a general purpose wiki, a custom site specific home page was constructed. All recipes are grouped by type (Main Dishes, Desserts, etc) using mediawiki's standard category tagging functionality and then automatically parsed and populated on the home page. This combination of leveraging existing open source technologies (MediaWiki) in conjunction with custom code allowed for rapid development (days vs. months) while delivering a mature and stable solution.
